Ko-fi Payout Schedule: How and When Ko-fi Pays You
July 2026 · 7 min read · by the Earnly team · Updated July 2026
Ko-fi has no payout schedule, because Ko-fi never holds your money. When a supporter pays you, the funds go straight into your own PayPal or Stripe account at the moment of the transaction. There is no balance building up on Ko-fi, no threshold to hit, and no payout day to wait for. That makes Ko-fi the fastest-paying platform most creators use, and it changes what you actually need to track.
If you are coming from Patreon or YouTube, this takes a second to sink in. On those platforms your earnings sit in the platform's account until a scheduled payout releases them. Ko-fi skips that entirely: it is a checkout layer on top of your own payment processor, so the money is yours the instant it clears. Here is how it works, where the money can still get held up, and what Ko-fi keeps.
How does Ko-fi pay you?
Ko-fi routes each payment directly to the payment processor you connect: PayPal, Stripe, or both. The supporter checks out on your Ko-fi page, and the money lands in your PayPal or Stripe balance right away, minus fees. Ko-fi itself is never in possession of the funds. Practically, that means:
- Tips and one-off payments with PayPal arrive in your PayPal balance immediately.
- Card payments through Stripe follow Stripe's own payout cycle to your bank, typically about 2 business days in the US for a standard rolling payout.
- Shop, commission, and membership sales work the same way, routed to whichever processor handled the charge.
So the honest answer to "when does Ko-fi pay out" is: it already did, the second your supporter paid. The only wait left is your processor's own timing.
Does Ko-fi pay instantly?
For PayPal, effectively yes. The money shows in your PayPal balance at the time of the transaction, and you spend or transfer it on PayPal's terms. For Stripe, the charge is instant but the deposit to your bank follows Stripe's rolling payout, usually around 2 business days in the US, with the first payout from a new Stripe account taking longer while the account is reviewed. Either way there is no Ko-fi-imposed delay on top.
How long does Ko-fi take to pay out?
Since Ko-fi does not hold funds, the timeline is entirely your processor's, not Ko-fi's:
| Processor | When you get the money |
|---|---|
| PayPal | Immediately in your PayPal balance; bank withdrawal on PayPal's terms |
| Stripe | Charge is instant; bank deposit on Stripe's rolling payout, about 2 business days in the US |
This is the key difference from every scheduled platform. There is no $50 or $100 threshold, no monthly cycle, and no held balance. If a payment is slow, the reason lives in PayPal or Stripe, such as a new-account review, a dispute hold, or a verification step, not in Ko-fi.
Do you need PayPal or Stripe for Ko-fi?
Yes. Because Ko-fi passes money straight through, you must connect at least one of PayPal or Stripe to receive anything. Connecting both gives supporters more ways to pay and is the usual setup. If neither is connected, or one gets restricted, payments cannot land, so a Ko-fi payment problem is very often a processor problem worth checking first.
Does Ko-fi take a fee?
Ko-fi's own fee structure is unusually light, and it depends on what is being paid and whether you are on the free tier or Ko-fi Gold:
| Payment type | Free tier Ko-fi fee | Ko-fi Gold |
|---|---|---|
| Tips and donations | 0% | 0% |
| Shop sales, commissions, memberships | 5% platform fee | 0% platform fee |
On the free tier, Ko-fi never takes a cut of tips, but it charges a 5% platform fee on shop, commission, and membership sales. Ko-fi Gold, a paid monthly subscription (currently $12 per month for new creators, and it is worth confirming on Ko-fi's pricing page since the plan has changed), drops that platform fee to 0% across the board. On top of Ko-fi's fee, your processor charges its standard rate: PayPal and Stripe both run around 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction regardless of plan. There are no buyer fees and no separate payout fees.
So on a free-plan $20 commission, expect roughly $1.00 to Ko-fi (5%) and about $0.88 to Stripe or PayPal, leaving around $18.12. On a $20 tip, Ko-fi takes nothing and you keep about $19.12 after the processor. That gap between tips and commissions is worth planning around if commissions are a big part of your income.
Ko-fi against the platforms you also earn on
Ko-fi's pass-through model makes it the outlier in a creator's payment mix, and usually the fastest line on the board:
| Platform | Payout timing | Threshold |
|---|---|---|
| Ko-fi | Instant to your own PayPal or Stripe | None |
| Patreon | Initiates the 5th | Set by payout method |
| Twitch | Around the 15th, net 15 | $50 |
| YouTube (AdSense) | Issued 21st to 26th | $100 |
The upside of instant money is obvious. The hidden cost is that Ko-fi income is easy to lose track of, precisely because it never pauses in one place. It lands in PayPal in dribs, gets spent, and never shows up as a tidy monthly payout you can point to. Meanwhile Patreon pays on the 5th and YouTube in the 21st to 26th window, so your real monthly income is scattered across instant tips and scheduled payouts at once. A payout calendar and one board that captures gross, fees, and take-home per source is how you keep the fast-moving Ko-fi money from disappearing into the noise.
Tracking money that never sits still
Because Ko-fi funds hit PayPal or Stripe immediately and net of fees, the best habit is to log each Ko-fi payment as income when it happens, tagged by type, so tips, commissions, and memberships stay separate. Commissions carry the 5% platform fee and tips do not, so a month heavy on commission work nets a different percentage than a month of pure tips, and only per-type tracking shows it. If commission work is a real part of your Ko-fi income, many creators also list those services on a shareable page for selling services to pull in clients beyond their existing audience. However the work comes in, our guide to tracking income from multiple platforms covers keeping instant and scheduled income on one honest board.
Common Ko-fi payout questions
- When does Ko-fi pay out? There is no payout day. Money goes to your PayPal or Stripe at the moment of the transaction.
- Is there a minimum to withdraw from Ko-fi? No. Ko-fi has no threshold because it never holds a balance.
- Why has my Ko-fi payment not arrived? Check PayPal or Stripe first. A new-account review, dispute hold, or verification step there is the usual cause.
- Does Ko-fi Gold change payout speed? No. Gold removes the 5% platform fee on sales; it does not change timing, which is set by your processor.
- Is Ko-fi income taxable? Yes. It is income even though there is no formal payout. See our guide to 1099s for creators, then talk to a tax professional.
