In short

For most categories, eBay charges US sellers a final value fee of 13.6% on the order total up to $7,500, which includes item price, shipping and sales tax, and 2.35% on the part above $7,500. A per-order fee of $0.30 applies to orders of $10 or less and $0.40 to larger ones. Promoted Listings, international sales and some categories add or change those figures.

Why it matters

What this line of the statement buys you

Fees on shipping and tax too

eBay calculates the final value fee on the whole order, not only the item. That is the line most rules of thumb miss and the reason a payout looks smaller than expected.

The ad rate shown honestly

A Promoted Listings rate on top of the final value fee can take the total near a quarter of a small order. Turning the ad rate on and off shows what the ad has to earn to pay for itself.

Profit, not just fees

Put in what the item and the label cost you and the calculator shows the profit on the sale, which is the number that decides whether a listing is worth keeping.

Fees for the whole month, not one order

A calculator answers one order. Earnly applies a fee breakdown to the payouts from the platforms it reads, so you see the monthly and yearly picture for the rest of your income next to your eBay estimate.

How you use it

From export file to answer

01

Enter the price, shipping and tax

The final value fee is charged on the total, so include the shipping you charge and the sales tax eBay collects.

02

Set the percent for your category

Use 13.6% for most categories, or the rate on eBay's fee page for yours.

03

Add an ad rate if you promote the listing

Enter the Promoted Listings percentage you set, or leave it at zero.

04

Add your costs and read the profit

Item cost and label cost turn the payout into the amount you actually keep.

It works the same for every kind of seller: see it in action for freelancers, amazon sellers, youtubers or check the income tracker pricing.

Questions people actually ask

How much does eBay take from a sale?

In most categories about 13.6% of the order total plus a $0.30 or $0.40 per-order fee, which lands near 14% to 15% on typical orders. Promoted Listings and international sales add to that.

Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?

Yes. The final value fee applies to the total the buyer pays, which includes shipping and sales tax collected on the sale. That is why the fee on a small item with expensive shipping looks high.

What is the eBay per-order fee?

A flat $0.30 on orders of $10 or less and $0.40 on orders above $10, charged on top of the final value fee.

Do category rates differ?

Yes. Several categories have a different percentage or a cap, so change the percent in the calculator to the rate listed for your category.

Why is my eBay payout lower than the sale price?

eBay deducts its fees before it pays you, and sales tax it collected is remitted on your behalf, so the payout is net while the sale total is gross.

Where do I track eBay income?

eBay is not one of the sources Earnly reads, so for eBay itself use your eBay payout reports. Our eBay sales tracker guide and the eBay and QuickBooks guide cover what works. Earnly puts your Etsy, Amazon, Shopify and creator payouts on one board, and the Etsy fee calculator does the same sum for Etsy.
