In short

Zoho Books pricing in the US has six tiers charged per organization per month: Free at $0, Standard at $20, Professional at $50, Premium at $70, Elite at $150 and Ultimate at $275. Paying for a year drops those to $15, $40, $60, $120 and $240 a month. The Free tier runs indefinitely as long as your revenue for the financial year stays under $50,000. Every tier caps users at 3, 5, 10, 10 and 15 respectively, with extra seats at $3 each a month. Figures were read from zoho.com/us/books/pricing on September 21, 2026.

The honest read

Almost every Zoho Books pricing page you will find quotes the wrong number, and it is the same mistake each time. Zoho shows two prices on each plan card, the monthly rate and the lower rate you get for paying a year up front, and roundups copy the annual figure and label it the monthly price. That is how "Zoho Books starts at $15" and "Professional costs $40" end up in print when the monthly prices are $20 and $50. A business that signs up month to month pays 33% more than the number it was quoted on Standard and 25% more on Professional. This page gives both columns side by side so the comparison is honest. It also covers the three things that decide your real bill and that the plan cards do not put in the headline: the $50,000 revenue ceiling on the Free tier, the per-tier user caps that push a four-person team onto add-on seats, and the fact that the Etsy, eBay, Amazon and Shopify connectors do not appear until the Elite plan at $150 a month. If you sell on a marketplace, that last one changes the answer completely, and it is the single most under-reported fact about Zoho Books pricing. Earnly is not accounting software and does not compete with Zoho Books on bookkeeping. We track what creator and seller platforms actually pay you after their fees, which is the part a ledger records only as a net deposit, and we say so plainly where it matters below.

Zoho Books pricing 2026, every plan and both billing terms

US prices as published on zoho.com/us/books/pricing, read on September 21, 2026. Prices are per organization per month and exclude local taxes. The annual column is what Zoho charges per month when you pay for twelve months up front, and it is the figure most comparison articles mistakenly print as the monthly price.

Plan Monthly Billed annually Users included Invoices per year What the tier adds
Free $0 $0 1 user + 1 accountant 1,000 Invoices, quotes, expenses, bank reconciliation, mileage, W-9 management, 1099 tracking and filing, P&L and balance sheet
Standard $20 $15 3 5,000 Bank feeds, sales and use tax tracking, 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC e-filing, recurring expenses, custom fields and reports, API access
Professional $50 $40 5 10,000 Inventory tracking, sales and purchase orders, project profitability, billable timesheets, multi-currency, retainers, custom user roles
Premium $70 $60 10 25,000 Basic revenue recognition, fixed asset management, budgets, cash flow forecasting, vendor portal, custom domain and modules
Elite $150 $120 10 100,000 Advanced inventory, warehouses, serial and batch tracking, shipping labels, and the Etsy, eBay, Amazon and Shopify sales channel connectors
Ultimate $275 $240 15 100,000 Advanced analytics with 50+ visualizations, KPI tracking, 3 million rows, and report embedding in other sites

Bills and expenses follow the same annual ladder as invoices: 1,000 on Free, 5,000 on Standard, 10,000 on Professional, 25,000 on Premium and 100,000 on Elite and Ultimate. Zoho offers a 14-day trial on the paid plans and bills per organization, so running two businesses means two subscriptions.

Zoho Books add-on costs

Add-ons are billed on top of the plan. Zoho notes that add-ons are not supported on the Free tier, with the single exception of document autoscans.

Add-on Monthly Billed annually Unit Who ends up paying for it
Extra users $3 $2.50 Per user per month Any team larger than the seat count included in the tier, which is 3 on Standard and 5 on Professional
Document autoscans $10 $8 Per 50 scans per month Businesses past the included allowance: 50 scans on Free, 200 on Standard and Professional, 1,000 on Premium and above
Locations $12 $10 Per location per month Multi-warehouse sellers on Elite and Ultimate
Expense claim $9 $7 Per active user per month Teams reimbursing staff expenses, charged only for users who actually file a claim
BillPay $69 $59 Per month Accounts payable teams wanting 100 ACH vendor payments, purchase order matching and vendor approvals

The extra-user add-on is the one that catches people out. A five-person team on Standard is not $20 a month, it is $20 plus two seats at $3, so $26. Zoho Payments also returns 1% in Zoho Credits on card transactions you accept, which is a credit against other Zoho spending rather than cash back.

What a year of Zoho Books actually costs, four common setups

Subscription only, calculated from the prices above. Payment processing, payroll and any other Zoho products are separate.

Setup Plan needed Monthly billing Annual billing Why that tier
Solo consultant, under $50K revenue, invoices clients Free $0 $0 One user plus an accountant, 1,000 invoices and bank reconciliation are all included
Solo consultant, over $50K revenue Standard $240 a year $180 a year The revenue ceiling ends the Free tier; Standard adds bank feeds and 1099 e-filing
Agency, 5 people, tracks project profit Professional $600 a year $480 a year Project profitability and billable timesheets start here, and 5 seats are included
Etsy and Amazon seller wanting order sync Elite $1,800 a year $1,440 a year The marketplace connectors are an Elite feature, not a Standard or Professional one

The jump from the third row to the fourth is the important one. Nothing about the seller in row four is bigger than the agency in row three, and the bill triples, purely because of where Zoho puts the sales channel connectors.

Why most Zoho Books pricing articles quote $15 instead of $20

Zoho's plan cards carry a monthly and yearly toggle, and both figures sit in the page at once. The larger number is the monthly rate, the smaller one is the effective monthly rate when you pay twelve months up front. Scraped comparison tables and hand-written roundups keep picking up the lower figure and printing it as the price.

As of September 21, 2026, published Zoho Books pricing guides describe the range as "$15 to $240 a month", say "Standard plan starts at $15 per month", and list "Professional (5 users) costs $40 per month". Those are the annual-billing rates. Month to month you pay $20, $50, $70, $150 and $275. On Standard that is a 33% difference and on Professional 25%.

This matters more than a rounding error because the two billing terms are not equally available to everyone. Paying a year up front for accounting software you have used for two weeks is a real commitment, and plenty of small businesses start monthly on purpose. If you budgeted from a roundup, your first invoice is a third higher than planned.

The $50,000 ceiling on the Zoho Books free tier

Zoho Books has a genuinely free tier, and it is more capable than most free accounting plans: 1,000 invoices a year, bank reconciliation, recurring invoices, a customer portal, mileage tracking, W-9 management, 1099 contractor tracking and filing, and more than 50 reports including P&L and balance sheet. One user plus one accountant, with email support.

The condition is revenue. Zoho's own pricing FAQ says the Free tier is available indefinitely "as long as your revenue for the financial year does not exceed the threshold of $50K". Most comparison pages mention the free tier and omit the cap, which is the entire question of whether it is usable for you. A freelancer clearing $60,000 does not have a free accounting option at Zoho, they have a $240 a year one.

If you are close to the line, plan for Standard rather than hoping. The move from Free to Standard is the cheapest upgrade on the ladder and it buys bank feeds, which is the feature that saves the most manual work.

Zoho Books user limits: the seat cap is the real pricing lever

Each tier includes a fixed number of users: 3 on Standard, 5 on Professional, 10 on Premium, 10 on Elite and 15 on Ultimate. Extra seats are $3 a month each, or $2.50 billed annually. The Free tier is one user plus an accountant, and Zoho does not sell the user add-on on Free at all.

This works the same way FreshBooks' billable-client cap does. Your bill is driven by the shape of your business as much as by the features you need. A four-person shop that only needs Standard features pays $23 a month, not $20. A seven-person one pays $32. That is still cheap next to the alternatives, and it is worth saying that Zoho's $3 seat is a quarter of the $11 FreshBooks charges for an extra team member.

Note the flat spot between Premium and Elite. Both include 10 users, so moving up to Elite buys inventory depth and sales channels, never seats. If your problem is genuinely that you have 12 people, adding two seats to Premium at $6 a month is $76 rather than the $150 Elite costs.

Where Etsy, Amazon and Shopify syncing sits, and why it costs $150

This is the fact worth the most money on this page. Zoho Books lists "Connect online sales channels (Etsy, eBay, Amazon)" and "Integrate Shopify stores (up to 2)" as Elite plan features. Elite is $150 a month, or $120 billed annually. They are not on Standard, not on Professional, and not on Premium.

Roundups that recommend Zoho Books to online sellers almost always anchor on the $20 Standard price or the free tier. For a seller who wants their marketplace orders to flow into their books, the honest entry price is $150 a month, which is 7.5 times the figure they were shown. That is not a criticism of Zoho, which is clear about it on its own comparison page. It is a criticism of how the product gets recommended.

Run the comparison before you commit. QuickBooks Online includes free Intuit connectors for Shopify, Amazon and eBay on any paid plan, including Simple Start at $38, which we cover on the Shopify QuickBooks integration and eBay QuickBooks integration pages. Those connectors post at order level rather than settlement level, which is a real limitation once volume climbs, and the payout reconciliation page explains when that breaks. But on price alone, marketplace syncing is a $38 feature at Intuit and a $150 one at Zoho.

Zoho Books Professional at $50 against QuickBooks Plus at $140

The fairest head to head on this ladder is Professional against QuickBooks Online Plus, because they carry the same two headline features and the same seat count. Both give you inventory tracking, project profitability and five users. Zoho Professional is $50 a month, or $40 annually. QuickBooks Plus is $140 a month following the increase that applied to renewals from August 1, 2026, up from $115.

That is $90 a month, or $1,080 a year, for the same two capabilities and the same number of people. Plenty of published comparisons still price QuickBooks Plus at $90 or even $70, which makes the gap look smaller than it is. The $70 figure is the promotional rate for the first three months.

What the extra money buys at Intuit is real, and it is worth naming rather than hand waving. QuickBooks has native US payroll, which Zoho Books does not; you would add Zoho Payroll or a third party. It has far wider CPA familiarity, which matters if you hand your file to an accountant in March. And it has the free marketplace connectors described above. If none of those three apply to you, Professional does the same job for a third of the price. Our QuickBooks alternatives page works through the rest of the field.

How Zoho Books pricing compares with Wave, FreshBooks and Xero

Against Wave, Zoho is the more capable product and Wave is the cheaper one at the bottom. Wave Starter is $0 with no revenue ceiling at all, which beats Zoho's Free tier for anyone over $50,000, but Wave holds bank feeds behind its $19 Pro plan and has no marketplace connectors at any price.

Against FreshBooks, the shape is different. FreshBooks Lite is $23 a month and caps you at 5 billable clients, so a business with short engagements gets pushed to the $43 Plus plan by client count alone. Zoho caps invoice volume instead, at 5,000 a year on Standard, which almost nobody hits. If you bill many small clients, Zoho Standard at $20 is the better value by a wide margin.

Against Xero, the deciding factor is users. Xero includes unlimited users on every plan, which is the opposite of Zoho's model, and US prices move from $25, $55 and $90 to $27, $59 and $97 on October 1, 2026. A ten-person team fits inside Zoho Premium at $70 without add-ons, so Zoho wins on price at that size, but a twenty-person team is cheaper on Xero.

Where Zoho Books stops for creators and online sellers

Zoho Books is a full double-entry ledger and a good one. If your income arrives as invoices you send to clients, the Free or Standard tier will serve you well and nothing here argues otherwise.

It fits less well when your income arrives as platform payouts. Below the Elite plan there are no marketplace connectors, so a Shopify, Etsy or Amazon sale lands as one net deposit with the platform's fees already deducted. For a creator the gap is wider still, because Zoho has no connector for YouTube, Twitch, Patreon, Gumroad or Ko-fi on any tier. A Twitch payout shows in your books as the amount that reached your bank, not the gross that appears on your 1099-K, and the difference between those two numbers is the platform's cut.

That gap is the job Earnly does. It puts payouts from YouTube, Twitch, Etsy, Gumroad, Patreon, Stripe, PayPal, Shopify, Amazon and the rest on one board showing gross, then fees, then take-home per source, with a payout calendar so you know what lands when. Most people run it alongside a ledger rather than instead of one: Zoho Books for the books, Earnly for what each platform actually paid. Sellers should also read Etsy bookkeeping software and ecommerce accounting software, and creators accounting software for content creators.

Questions people actually ask

How much does Zoho Books cost?

Zoho Books costs $0 for the Free tier, $20 a month for Standard, $50 for Professional, $70 for Premium, $150 for Elite and $275 for Ultimate, charged per organization. Paying a year up front lowers those to $15, $40, $60, $120 and $240 a month. Extra users are $3 a month each. Prices read from zoho.com/us/books/pricing on September 21, 2026 and exclude local taxes.

What is the Zoho Books Standard plan?

Standard is the first paid tier at $20 a month, or $15 billed annually, and it includes 3 users. Over the Free tier it adds bank feeds, sales and use tax tracking, 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC e-filing, recurring expenses, progress invoicing, custom fields, custom reports, transaction period locking and API access. It allows 5,000 invoices and 5,000 bills or expenses a year and 200 receipt autoscans a month.

Is Zoho Books really free?

Yes, with one condition. The Free tier costs $0 indefinitely as long as your revenue for the financial year stays under $50,000. It covers 1,000 invoices a year, one user plus one accountant, bank reconciliation, mileage tracking, 1099 filing and more than 50 reports. Add-ons cannot be purchased on Free apart from document autoscans, and once you pass the revenue threshold you move to Standard at $20 a month.

How many users do you get with Zoho Books?

Zoho Books includes 1 user plus 1 accountant on Free, 3 users on Standard, 5 on Professional, 10 on Premium, 10 on Elite and 15 on Ultimate. Additional users are an add-on at $3 per user a month, or $2.50 billed annually. Because Premium and Elite both include 10 seats, moving up to Elite buys inventory and sales channel features rather than extra users.

Does Zoho Books integrate with Etsy, Amazon or Shopify?

Yes, but only on the Elite plan at $150 a month, or $120 billed annually. Zoho lists connecting Etsy, eBay and Amazon sales channels and integrating up to two Shopify stores as Elite features, so they are unavailable on Standard, Professional and Premium. QuickBooks Online includes free Intuit connectors for Shopify, Amazon and eBay on any paid plan, starting at $38.

Is Zoho Books cheaper than QuickBooks?

Substantially, at matching feature levels. Zoho Books Professional is $50 a month and QuickBooks Online Plus is $140; both include 5 users, inventory tracking and project profitability, so the gap is $1,080 a year. At entry level Zoho Standard is $20 against QuickBooks Simple Start at $38. QuickBooks costs more but includes native US payroll, free marketplace connectors and much wider CPA familiarity, none of which Zoho Books matches.

Does Zoho Books have a trial?

Zoho Books offers a 14-day trial on its paid plans, and the Free tier itself needs no trial because it does not expire. Zoho is pay as you go with no contract, so you can cancel at any time, and trial users get 50 receipt autoscans a month, the same allowance as the Free tier.

How much are Zoho Books add-ons?

Extra users are $3 a month each, document autoscans $10 per 50 scans a month, locations $12 per location a month, expense claim $9 per active user a month, and BillPay $69 a month. Annual billing lowers those to $2.50, $8, $10, $7 and $59. Add-ons are not sold on the Free tier except document autoscans.
