The honest read
Most Gumroad alternatives lists are written by one of the alternatives, and they rarely price the same business on every platform. Two Gumroad details also get lost. Gumroad has been a merchant of record since January 1, 2025, so it collects and remits sales tax for you, which most cheaper storefronts do not. And its 10% drops to 5% plus $0.50 for the rest of any calendar month in which your paid sales pass $20,000. We read each vendor pricing page in October 2026 and priced the same digital product business on all of them, card processing included.

US prices in USD for a US seller. The platform fee is what the storefront itself takes from each sale. Card processing, 2.9% plus $0.30 a sale for a US card on most of these, comes on top unless the row says it is included.

Sellfy and SendOwl cap annual sales per plan: Sellfy Starter covers up to $10,000 a year, Business $50,000 and Premium $200,000; SendOwl's three plans cover $10,000, $36,000 and $100,000 a year. Podia lists only billed-yearly prices on its pricing page. Gumroad and Lemon Squeezy act as merchant of record and handle sales tax; on most other storefronts you are the seller.

What each platform keeps from the same digital product business
One product at $20. Seller A makes 100 sales a month ($2,000), seller B 500 sales ($10,000), all to US card buyers. Each total is the platform fee plus the plan that fits that sales volume plus card processing at 2.9% plus $0.30 a sale where it is not already included.
| Platform and plan | At $2,000 a month | At $10,000 a month |
|---|---|---|
| Gumroad, direct sales | $338 (16.9%) | $1,690 (16.9%) |
| Gumroad, every sale through Discover | $600 (30%) | $3,000 (30%) |
| Lemon Squeezy, 5% plus $0.50 | $150 (7.5%) | $750 (7.5%) |
| Payhip $0 plan, 5% | $188 (9.4%) | $940 (9.4%) |
| Payhip Plus, $29 plus 2% | $157 (7.9%) | $669 (6.7%) |
| Payhip Pro, $99 | $187 (9.4%) | $539 (5.4%) |
| Sellfy Business, then Premium | $167 (8.4%) | $599 (6.0%) |
| Podia Shaker, $84 billed yearly | $172 (8.6%) | $524 (5.2%) |
| Fourthwall Pro, $15 | $103 (5.2%) | $455 (4.6%) |
| Stan Store Creator, $29 | $117 (5.9%) | $469 (4.7%) |
| Ko-fi Gold, $12 | $100 (5.0%) | $452 (4.5%) |
Seller A ($24,000 a year) needs Sellfy Business at $79, because Starter stops at $10,000 a year; seller B ($120,000 a year) needs Premium at $159. SendOwl is left out of the $10,000 column because $120,000 a year is above its top plan. Stan Store adds a payout fee of 0.25% plus $0.25 a payout, and Lemon Squeezy adds 1.5% on international and PayPal orders. Sales tax is not included on any row; on Gumroad and Lemon Squeezy it is collected for you.
Why sellers look for a Gumroad alternative
Almost always the fee. Gumroad takes 10% plus $0.50 on every direct sale, then card processing of 2.9% plus $0.30 comes off as well, so a $20 template nets about $16.62 and a $5 preset about $3.56. On small prices the two fixed charges hurt most: $0.80 of every $5 sale goes before the 10% is even counted. Sales that come through Gumroad's Discover marketplace cost a flat 30%. Our Gumroad fees breakdown works through every case. The second reason is control over the storefront: Gumroad pages all look like Gumroad, and serious sellers want their own domain, upsells and email.
Lemon Squeezy and Payhip, the lowest fees without a monthly bill
Lemon Squeezy charges 5% plus $0.50 a sale with card processing included, and like Gumroad it is a merchant of record, so it collects and remits sales tax and VAT. That makes it the closest like-for-like swap, at less than half Gumroad's cost on a $20 product. It adds 1.5% for international and PayPal orders and 0.5% on subscriptions, and payouts to a US bank through Stripe are free. It is built around software: license keys, usage billing and subscriptions.
Payhip suits ebooks, templates, presets and courses. Its $0 plan takes 5%, Plus at $29 a month takes 2% and Pro at $99 takes nothing, with Stripe or PayPal processing on top. Plus beats the $0 plan once sales pass about $967 a month, and Pro beats Plus at about $3,500.
Sellfy, SendOwl and Podia, a flat plan and no percentage
These three charge a subscription instead of a cut, so they get cheaper the more you sell. Sellfy takes 0% on every plan and runs a full store with print on demand, but each plan caps your yearly sales: $10,000 on Starter at $29 a month, $50,000 on Business at $79 and $200,000 on Premium at $159, with 25% off if you pay yearly. SendOwl works the same way at $39, $87 and $159 a month and is the pick when you already have a website and only need checkout and delivery. Podia starts at $42 a month billed yearly with a 5% fee on Mover, and 0% on Shaker at $84, with courses, downloads, webinars and a community in one plan.
Fourthwall, Stan Store and Ko-fi for creators with an audience
If you sell to your own followers, these three are the cheapest on the table. Fourthwall Pro costs $15 a month and takes nothing on digital products, and it handles merch production and shipping too; on its $0 plan digital products carry a 5% fee. Stan Store is $29 a month with no Stan fee and lives in your link in bio; our Stan Store alternatives page prices it against Beacons, Payhip and Kajabi. Ko-fi Gold at $12 a month removes Ko-fi's 5% on shop sales, memberships and commissions, which pays for itself past $240 a month (full math in Ko-fi fees and Ko-fi Gold pricing). If your audience pays monthly rather than per product, compare membership platforms instead on our Patreon alternatives page.
When staying on Gumroad is the right call
Gumroad's fee buys two things the cheaper tools often do not. First, tax: as merchant of record since January 1, 2025, Gumroad collects and remits sales tax and VAT on every sale, so you never register in another state or country. Several US states tax digital products, and on most storefronts that is your job. Second, the fee scales down: once paid sales pass $20,000 in a calendar month, new direct sales that month cost 5% plus $0.50, which brings Gumroad close to Lemon Squeezy for big launches. If a real share of your buyers find you through Discover, the 30% is a marketing cost you would pay somewhere else anyway. If none of that applies, the table above shows what staying costs: about $188 a month more than Lemon Squeezy at $2,000 in sales.
How to switch without losing sales
Move your best seller first and keep the Gumroad listing live until the new page has sold a few copies. Gumroad lets you export a CSV of your sales and customers, so you can email past buyers about updates from the new store, within the consent they gave you. Redirect the links in your bio, newsletter and YouTube descriptions in one sitting, because old links keep sending buyers to Gumroad for months. If you run paid ads to the product page, put spend and store revenue in one marketing dashboard so the switch does not hide a change in return on ad spend. Expect a month or two where income arrives from both stores, on different payout days.
The part no storefront answers
Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy, Payhip and every tool above report what sold on that one store. None of them shows what you earned this month across all of them, after fees, next to YouTube AdSense, brand deals, Patreon and Etsy. Earnly does that: every payout on one board, with gross, fees and take-home per source and a payout calendar that knows Gumroad pays on Fridays once your balance clears $10 while Stan pays through Stripe. During a switch both stores sit side by side, so you can see whether the lower fee is actually landing in your bank. See how it works for Gumroad sellers and digital product sellers.
