In short

Payhip has three plans. The $0 plan costs nothing a month and takes 5% of every sale, Plus costs $29 a month and takes 2%, and Pro costs $99 a month and takes nothing. All three include every feature, unlimited products and unlimited revenue; the plan only changes the transaction fee. Stripe or PayPal processing comes on top on every plan, because Payhip deposits each sale straight into your own Stripe or PayPal account. Plus becomes cheaper than the $0 plan once you sell about $967 a month, and Pro becomes cheaper than Plus above $3,500 a month. Plan prices and fees were read from Payhip's billing help article on October 6, 2026.

The honest read

Payhip's plan cards are short, which is why most Payhip pricing pages copy them and stop. The questions a seller actually has sit underneath: which plan is cheapest at my sales level, what Stripe or PayPal take on top, whether marketplace sales cost extra (they do not, unlike Gumroad Discover), and who handles US sales tax (on Payhip you do, because Payhip only handles EU and UK VAT for you). This page works through each of those with the monthly cost at five sales levels, a side by side with Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy and Sellfy at the same revenue, and where Payhip money lands so you can see your real take-home.

Payhip pricing 2026, every plan

US prices in USD from Payhip's billing and upgrading help article, read on October 6, 2026. The Payhip fee is taken on each sale; Stripe or PayPal charge their own processing on top.

Plan Price a month Payhip transaction fee Features Cheapest when monthly sales are
$0 plan $0 5% All features, unlimited products and revenue Under about $967
Plus $29 2% All features, unlimited products and revenue About $967 to $3,500
Pro $99 0% All features, unlimited products and revenue Above $3,500

Payhip lists monthly prices only; we found no yearly plan on its help center. Plans are changed under Account, Settings, Billing and Invoices. PayPal and Stripe still charge their transaction fees on every plan, Pro included.

What Payhip really costs a month at five sales levels

Worked on a $20 average order, every buyer paying by card through Stripe at the standard US rate of 2.9% + $0.30. Each cell is the plan price, plus Payhip's fee, plus Stripe processing.

Monthly sales Orders $0 plan, 5% Plus, $29 + 2% Pro, $99 Cheapest plan
$500 25 $47.00 $61.00 $121.00 $0 plan
$1,000 50 $94.00 $93.00 $143.00 Plus, by $1
$2,000 100 $188.00 $157.00 $187.00 Plus
$5,000 250 $470.00 $349.00 $319.00 Pro
$10,000 500 $940.00 $669.00 $539.00 Pro

Stripe alone is $22, $44, $88, $220 and $440 at these five levels, so on Pro the processor is the whole variable cost. Buyers who pay through PayPal checkout cost more: PayPal charges 3.49% + $0.49 on those payments, about $0.31 more than Stripe on a $20 order.

Payhip vs Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy and Sellfy at $2,000 a month

100 orders of $20 from US buyers paying by card. Rates read from each vendor's own pricing or help pages in October 2026. A merchant of record collects and remits sales tax for you; the others leave that job with the seller.

Platform and plan What you pay Cost a month Share of sales Merchant of record
Payhip $0 plan 5% + Stripe 2.9% + $0.30 $188 9.4% No, EU and UK VAT only
Payhip Plus $29 + 2% + Stripe $157 7.9% No, EU and UK VAT only
Payhip Pro $99 + Stripe $187 9.4% No, EU and UK VAT only
Gumroad, direct sales 10% + $0.50, plus 2.9% + $0.30 $338 16.9% Yes
Gumroad, Discover marketplace sales 30%, processing included $600 30.0% Yes
Lemon Squeezy 5% + $0.50, processing included $150 7.5% Yes
Sellfy Business (Starter caps sales at $10,000 a year) $79 + Stripe, 0% fee $167 8.4% No

At $2,000 a month Payhip Plus is the cheapest option that leaves sales tax with you, and Lemon Squeezy is $7 cheaper while also handling tax. Gumroad drops its direct fee to 5% + $0.50 once you pass $20,000 in paid sales in a calendar month. Lemon Squeezy is steering its sellers toward Stripe Managed Payments in 2026, which adds 3.5% on top of standard Stripe processing.

Which Payhip plan to buy

The math is short because every plan has the same features. Moving from the $0 plan to Plus saves 3% of sales for $29, so it pays once you sell $967 a month. Moving from Plus to Pro saves another 2% for $70 more, so Pro pays above $3,500 a month. If you are deciding between the $0 plan and Pro directly, the line is $1,980.

Use your average of the last three months, not your best month. A seller who does $600 most months and $4,000 in a November launch should stay on the $0 plan for most of the year; Payhip bills monthly with no yearly contract, so moving up for a launch month is a choice you can make month by month. Sellers above $3,500 a month every month should be on Pro, where the only variable cost left is Stripe or PayPal.

Payhip marketplace sales cost nothing extra

Payhip runs a marketplace that recommends products to buyers outside your own audience, and it charges no additional fee on those sales; you pay your usual plan rate. To be listed, your store needs at least $10 in total sales, a review by Payhip's accounts team, and approval of each product, which Payhip aims to finish within 10 days. Only digital products are listed today.

That is the sharpest difference from Gumroad, where a sale that comes through the Discover marketplace costs 30% instead of 10% + $0.50. On a $20 template that is $6.00 against $2.50 before processing. Our Gumroad fees breakdown has the full Gumroad schedule, including the 5% rate above $20,000 a month.

Who handles sales tax on Payhip

Payhip handles EU and UK VAT on digital products for you by default. On a $10 ebook sold to a buyer in France with VAT added on top, the buyer pays $12, Payhip keeps its 5% and the $2 VAT, and you receive $9.50 before PayPal or Stripe fees. You can switch this off and handle VAT yourself in the Taxes settings.

US sales tax works differently. Payhip lets you set up custom taxes, collects them at checkout and sends them to you, but it does not file or remit them. If your state taxes digital products, you register, file and pay. That is the real reason some sellers pay more for a merchant of record like Gumroad or Lemon Squeezy: the higher rate buys the tax work.

Where Payhip money lands, and how to see your take-home

Payhip never holds your money. Each sale is deposited straight into the PayPal or Stripe account you set up, refunds are issued from PayPal or Stripe, and Payhip's own fee is taken out of the sale. Payhip's monthly sales report, under Customers and then Sales Report, downloads as a PDF with VAT collected, processor fees, Payhip fees, products sold and affiliate commissions. Its analytics graphs run in UTC.

That split is where sellers lose track. Earnly reads the Stripe and PayPal CSV exports you upload, so Payhip sales show up on your board with gross, fees and take-home, next to YouTube, Etsy, Gumroad, Patreon and the other platforms you earn from, with a payout calendar and a next-month forecast that is always labeled an estimate. It does not process payments or file taxes. See Earnly plans or the multi-platform income tracker. If your bookkeeper works in QuickBooks, they can turn the Stripe CSV into a QBO file for import.

Payhip vs Gumroad on cost

At $2,000 a month in $20 orders, Payhip Plus costs $157 and Gumroad direct sales cost $338, a gap of $181 a month or $2,172 a year. At $10,000 a month Payhip Pro costs $539 against $1,690 on Gumroad, and Gumroad only closes part of that gap once a seller passes $20,000 in paid sales in a calendar month and moves to 5% + $0.50.

Gumroad's case is not price. It is the merchant of record, so it collects and remits sales tax for you, and its Discover marketplace can bring buyers you would not find yourself, at 30%. If you are weighing more storefronts than these two, our Gumroad alternatives page prices ten of them at $2,000 and $10,000 a month, and the Stan Store alternatives page covers link-in-bio storefronts.

How to pay less on Payhip

1. Pick the plan from your three-month average. Under $967 a month stay on the $0 plan; between $967 and $3,500 buy Plus; above that buy Pro.

2. Steer buyers to card checkout. PayPal checkout costs 3.49% + $0.49 against Stripe's 2.9% + $0.30. Our PayPal fee calculator shows the difference on your own prices.

3. Bundle very cheap products. The $0.30 fixed processing fee is 10% of a $3 sale and 1.5% of a $20 one. Three $3 printables sold as one $8 bundle cost less to sell than three separate orders.

4. Use the Payhip marketplace before paid discovery. It adds no fee, where Gumroad Discover takes 30%.

Questions people actually ask

How much does Payhip cost?

Payhip costs $0 a month on its entry plan with a 5% fee on every sale, $29 a month on Plus with a 2% fee, and $99 a month on Pro with no transaction fee. Every plan includes all features, unlimited products and unlimited revenue. Stripe or PayPal processing is charged on top on all three plans.

What are Payhip fees?

Payhip charges a transaction fee of 5% on the $0 plan, 2% on Plus and 0% on Pro, taken from each sale. Your payment processor adds its own charge: 2.9% + $0.30 per US card payment on Stripe, or 3.49% + $0.49 on PayPal checkout. Marketplace sales carry no extra Payhip fee.

Is Payhip free to use?

Payhip has a plan with no monthly price, and it is the cheapest choice if you sell under about $967 a month. It is not free: Payhip takes 5% of every sale on it, and Stripe or PayPal charge processing on top. At $2,000 a month in sales, that plan costs about $188 all in.

Is Payhip cheaper than Gumroad?

Yes for most sellers. At $2,000 a month in $20 orders, Payhip Plus costs about $157 including Stripe processing, against about $338 on Gumroad direct sales. Gumroad is a merchant of record that collects and remits sales tax for you, which Payhip does not do for US sales tax.

Does Payhip handle sales tax?

Payhip handles EU and UK VAT on digital products automatically by default. For US sales tax it lets you set up custom taxes that it collects at checkout and passes to you, but you register, file and remit them yourself. Payhip is not a merchant of record for US sales tax.

How does Payhip pay you?

Payhip deposits each sale straight into the PayPal or Stripe account you set up, so there is no Payhip payout schedule or minimum payout. Your money then follows PayPal's or Stripe's own transfer timing to your bank. Refunds are issued from PayPal or Stripe and are reflected in Payhip's reports.

Does Payhip have a yearly plan?

We found no yearly billing option. Payhip's help center lists Plus at $29 a month and Pro at $99 a month, billed monthly, and you change plans under Account, Settings, Billing and Invoices. Monthly billing means you can move up in a strong sales month and choose again the next month.

When should I upgrade to Payhip Pro?

Upgrade to Pro when your sales stay above $3,500 a month. Below that, Plus at $29 and 2% costs less. Against the $0 plan, Pro pays for itself at $1,980 a month. On Pro the only variable cost left is Stripe or PayPal processing.
